Professional Supervision

Professional Supervision

Aimed at teachers of Mindfulness-Based Programs and Clinical & Non-Clinical Professionals who integrate mindfulness practices into individual sessions.

The Ser Integral: Portuguese Mindfulness Center offers supervision services for qualified and certified teachers in training in the MBSR – Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, MBCT – Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and MBCT-L – Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Life programs.

Mindfulness-based supervision is a fundamental and integrated component of the training path for teachers of Mindfulness-Based Programs (MBPs), according to the Good Practice Criteria for Teaching Mindfulness-Based Programs (https://bamba.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/GPG-for-Teaching-Mindfulness-Based-Courses-BAMBA.pdf). It is intended not only for those completing their training and beginning their experience teaching mindfulness-based programs, but is also essential for those already teaching to maintain regular supervision sessions to create a continuous space for development.

Supervision sessions create a unique, safe, and reliable space for dialogue and reflection on your personal mindfulness practice and teaching of mindfulness programs to gently take place with an experienced MBP teacher and training provider to guide the supervision.

The relationship established with the supervisor allows for the development and deepening of personal mindfulness practice and the teaching of the curricular components of the protocol to be guided, as well as the skills to be developed in a mindfulness teacher according to the MBI-TAC – Mindfulness Based Teaching Assessment Criteria.

The sessions are based on a collaborative process, and the intention is to build a connection between supervisor and supervisee that allows for a receptive, welcoming, curious, and creative exploration of their personal practice and how it informs their competencies and qualities of presence and embodiment during the guidance of PBM groups.

How Do Supervision Sessions Work?

Supervision sessions typically begin by defining the agenda for that day's session, focusing on specific aspects of session preparation and teaching prior to the supervision session, as well as your personal practice and how it connects to how you lead group sessions. Supervision is a collaborative exploration to investigate the topics defined for the session, as well as anything that arises during the session.

How Frequent and Long-Term Are Supervision Sessions?

Sessions are held weekly and bi-weekly, lasting 45 or 60 minutes. 60-minute sessions are preferred to allow more space for exploration and dialogue.

It is recommended that those teaching their first groups schedule a supervision session before the programs begin, as well as weekly sessions throughout the 8 weeks of the program.

As your experience develops, there may be more space between supervision sessions during the 8 weeks of teaching, but this should be regular and continuous.

The sessions take place online via Zoom and are conducted in Portuguese or English.
